An Obsession
I have a strong distaste for clowns, circuses, rodeos, traveling-shows and hucksters. And yet, every 4 years I succumb to the biggest and most transparent sideshow around--the U.S. Presidential election. I know better, I really do. And yet, I am drawn to it, as one would be to a forest fire, tornado, flood or other unfolding disaster. In light of this affliction, I remain resolute in my determination NOT to blog on 2008 politics until after the election. But I find myself distracted by all the political noise and have difficulty writing of anything else. Time is the only cure. In another month and 2 days, I should start the recovery process, and regular blogging should resume. In the meantime, I had better start getting ready for tonight's Vice-Presidential debate.

Prayers that you get through it all. I really do not know how you Americans cope with such a long election process; we have 5-6 weeks generally once an election is called, and I've had enough by week 3 or 4!
I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Drudge. Politico. Real Clear Politics. Crunchy Con. ABCNews.com. cnn.com. and on and on, forever and ever unto ages of ages...
Ugh.
We need a autumnal lenten season! :)
Try to remember that H.L. Mencken said that the consolation of democracy is that it is the most entertaining form of government known to man.
Now my secret "get elected quck" platform would be that all future elections would be confined "English Style" to a period of 6 weeks from primary to final nomination. The 3-year process these days is... unrelenting. Constant campaigns for "change" seem to obscure how little of it we actually get.
I'll second James's point. Way. too. long.
And then we could be rid of the various subplots and story lines that have nothing to do with governance. Finally, our nation would not look like a bunch of teenagers at a hockey game taunting and insulting the fans from the other team across the arena.
Lord have mercy.

Heh -our elections are over. i posted my observations over at the Boar's Head Tavern, but nothing much changed - except that my pre-elections observation (not documented - damn!) that the Liberals will shed votes to the left & the right has been proven correct.
